20 Free Things to do in Chicago

Chicago is my hometown and I must say I love everything about Chicago (besides the snow). Chicago is full of culture and has so many interesting things from historic museums to beautiful parks. Chicago is a beautiful city with tons of places to see and do. Chicago is a great place to visit if your on budget because there is so many free things that you can see and do! I made a list of 20 things that are free in Chicago.


Lincoln Park Zoo– is always free!

Navy Pier– great to walk around and watch the boats. Has free fireworks Wednesdays and Saturdays in the summer.

Chicago Greeter– Is a free guided tour around the city

City Gallery Chicago– Free art exhibit from local photographers

Grant Park–ย  Right next to Lake Michigan.

The Bean– a great place to take pictures and the kids would love it!

Magnificent Mile– Tons of stores and restaurants

Chicago Cultural Center–ย  Offers free art exhibits, dance events and concerts

Lincoln Park Conservatory– Has lots of exotic flowers and plants to look at

Chicago Botanic Garden– This is located outside of the downtown area but is a must do. The admission is free and they host different kinds of events year around.

Maggie Daley Park– Come look at the 30-foot suspension bridge tower!

The Oriental Institute Museum– Admission is free. Has ancient artifacts from ancient Egypt and Persia.

North Park Village Nature Center– Wetlands, woodlands, savanna, prairie you name it!

Chicago Childrenโ€™s Museum– Offers free play the first Sunday of every month and every Thursday from

5pm to 8pm.

Buckingham Foundation– Water displays every hour for 20 minutes.

Millennium Park– Cool sculptures to look at. Offers free ice skating in the winter and free concerts in the summer.

Federal Reserve Bank Money Museum- Check out what million dollars looks like!

Chicago Public Library– always offering free events and programs

Free Street Theater– Performs in different communities in the Chicagoland area.

Beaches– If you planning on visiting in the summer there are a couple of free beaches to go to. Loyola Beach, 12th St Beach, Montrose Beach, and North Avenue beach are beautiful ones.

  1. Great timing! Im planning to go to Chicago next month. I only know The Bean ๐Ÿ˜… and havent done any research. I will take note of ALL the items listed above. The great thing is they’re free!!!
